August Meeting on a rainy night

Great turnout tonight at the meeting, despite the stormy weather.  We enjoyed hearing about Myrtle’s adventures growing up on the island and Terry’s memories of her grandmother.  It was interesting to see all the pictures which helped illustrate life on the island back then.

As Terry describe her grandmother's life growing up on Caladesi Island, she had our full attention.

Wednesday’s Speaker:Terry Fortner, granddaughter of Myrtle Scharrer Betz

Our August meeting will be this Wednesday, August 21, at 6:30 at Bill Jackson’s in Pinellas Park.  Our featured speaker will be  Terry Fortner.  Her grandmother was Myrtle Scharrer Betz who wrote the book Yesteryear I lived in paradise: the story of Caladesi Island.  It’s an interesting book about the special experiences she had growing up on Caladesi from rowing her boat to the mainland to attend school to fishing to lots of adventures exploring the island.  If you haven’t had a chance to read the book before the meeting, this is a 2008 article Tampa Bay Times reporter Jeff Klinkenberg wrote about Terry and her family history with Caladesi Island:  http://tiny.cc/caladesi

We’ll also talk about our trips since the last meeting and upcoming adventures.

Hope to see you there!
