November Monthly Meeting

Our final meeting of 2016 will be held on Wednesday, November 16th at 6:30 at Bill Jackson’s in Pinellas Park.  (We don’t meet in December as everyone is busy with the holidays.)  We will wrap up the year preparing for the holidays. Esteemed TAW Board member and talented artist Carol will lead an evening of fun glass painting.  The last time she did this we had a full house.  We will have a potluck dinner.  Please remember to bring:

  • A glass to paint – it can be a beer glass, wine glass, vase, you name it
  • $3.00 donation for Carol to reimburse her for the paints she will be supplying
  • A beverage of your choice
  • A potluck dish to share

We will start promptly at 6:30 to allow enough time for everyone to paint their glass and allow it time to dry.  Hope to see you all there and don’t forget to bring a friend!

September Monthly Meeting

Our September monthly meeting was Wednesday, September 21, at 6:30 at Bill Jackson’s in Pinellas Park. We talked about last weekend’s trip to the Rainbow River and upcoming trips and events. We have kayaking, bicycling, hiking and trap/skeet shooting adventures ahead.

Our speaker was Shirley T., one of our members who also is a volunteer in the Coast Guard Auxiliary.  She talked to us about pollution in the ocean and then showed us a movie about a pygmy sperm whale that was rescued. She was ill. Inside her stomach they found plastic bags, parts of a mylar balloon and other plastic trash that had been discarded in the ocean.  After going through rehabilitation, she recovered.  She was released off the coast of Florida in the Atlantic Ocean.  While it was great to have helped her out, it was sad that while out on the ocean monitoring her after the release, they saw plastic trash floating such as a plastic fork.  That is a reminder to us all to make sure we deposit trash in the proper receptacle.

August Monthly Meeting

Our August monthly meeting will be Wednesday, August 17th at 6:30 at Bill Jackson’s in Pinellas Park.  We’ll talk about past trips and upcoming trips. The featured speaker is Captain Dave Zalewski who will give us tips for fishing the Old Salt’s Ladies Fishing Tournament, held on September 10th. Captain Dave’s fishing charter business is based out of the Madeira Beach/John’s Pass area, where he has launched fishing trips for more than 30 years.   See you there!
